Once the residence of prominent Birmingham families, the estate evolved, eventually becoming a cherished landmark in the heart of Birmingham. With its elegant architecture and lush gardens, Edgbaston Park Hotel has welcomed guests from all walks of life, hosting memorable events and celebrations throughout its storied past. Now the venue is run and operated by the University Of Birmingham, offering a local and familiar place to be wed, loved by alumni of the University.

Nestled in a leafy enclave just minutes from Birmingham city centre, it's conveniently close to several iconic landmarks, including Edgbaston Cricket Ground, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and Edgbaston Priory Tennis Club. Guests can also explore nearby attractions such as Winterbourne House and Garden, Martineau Gardens, and Birmingham MAC. The venue offers two separate and appealing suites, with different guest capacities. The grounds surrounding the venue are free to use by either suites, ensuring that during the summer months you can still go outside to capture those gorgeous golden hour sunset photos. Let’s take a look in more detail at each suite and which would suit your needs best.
Hornton Grange
Nestled within the verdant campus of the University of Birmingham, Hornton Grange stands as a testament to Victorian elegance and historical charm. This Grade II listed building, dating back to the late 19th century, showcases striking red-brick exteriors and intricate architectural detailing. With a freshly renovated external hall suitable for weddings with up to 100 guests during the day and 150 for the evening, the high vaulted ceiling gives an open and light feel. With sunlight shining through the skylights during your wedding not matter the time of year, Hornton Grange is the most popular of the two suites available.
Adjoined to the main ceremony room is a long reception room, where guests can shelter during the evening, or spill out onto the private patio area. The front of the building has a large courtyard suitable for confetti throwing and entire group photos, whilst local free onsite parking ensures that your guests are well catered for. Only a two-minute walk to the hotel part of the venue, guests can check in in advance of your wedding whilst preparations are undertaken. Above the reception hall lies several private preparation rooms, ideal for getting ready with your bridal party.
The Fry Suite
A much larger space with seating for 180 guests during the day and 240 at night, the Fry Suite offers weddings on a much larger scale. Situated in the hotel section of the venue, this large room has immediate access to the bar for drinks, as well as direct access to the hotel rooms for guests. With beautiful ring lighting above, large windows to give an airy feel and inbuilt audio sources, this room is ideal for both weddings and conferences.
Upon arrival, guests are welcomed at reception before being led to the Fry Lounge, ideal for welcome drinks receptions. Alternatively, the picturesque Garth House grounds offer outdoor space for drinks, entertainment, and photographs. Ceremonies can take place in the Fry Suite, commonly chosen for receptions. Both indoor and outdoor catering options are available, with couples invited to an exclusive menu tasting. The venue collaborates with external caterers, offering flexibility. The Fry Suite features a built-in bar and offers drink packages. In the evening, it serves as a dancefloor and stage for live music.
Garth House
The preparation for your wedding day starts here! A discreet house attached to the venue nestled behind trees sits this gorgeous house, ready to accommodate your bridal party. In the vast Renoir Room, you and up to 14 guests can get ready, bathed in natural light, alongside an ensuite big enough for your entire party to feel comfortable. Only a short one-minute walk to both wedding suites, this dedicated space gives you a chance to calm and collect your thoughts before the hustle of the wedding day unfolds. A great place for photographs during your portrait session, the grounds are beautifully cared for, with a range of beautifully smelling flora.
The Grounds
The grounds of Edgbaston Park Hotel are enclosed from the busy traffic of central Birmingham, which allows a vast lawn behind Hornton Grange for guests and kids to play on, as well as a trellised walkway for your portrait session. At the back of the Hornton Grange sits a quiet waterfall, with scenic views of the vaulted ceilings of the Lloyd Suite behind, perfect for you to have pictures taken for your wall. A walk around the three grounds (including the exterior of Garth house) takes around 15 minutes, just enough time to stretch your legs and get your thoughts together before returning to the dancing in the evening at your wedding.

Whilst you’re unable to host your ceremony for Christian weddings within Edgbaston Park Hotel, there is a range of local churches that can host for you. Ensure that you liaise with your local parish for the best venue. From traditional Roman Catholic churches to Church Of England establishments, you can ensure that your faith ties in with your day, followed by enjoying the evening and meal at the venue until the early hours.
Non-Religious Weddings
Edgbaston Park Hotel is authorised by the local council to perform non-religious ceremonies at both venues, by hiring a Registrar direct from the council. This lets you have your entire day unfold in one location, making it easier for guests and removing the obstacle of transportation. If you choose to have your registry direct at your local Registry Office, you can hire a celebrant instead to have a ceremony with no legal binding. A celebrant can tailor make the ceremony to whatever you’d like, including hand fastening ceremonies, unorthodox speeches or entertainment. If you are not a Birmingham resident, be sure to get your wedding registration complete in your local constituency.
