Brad & Louisa’s Rock Festival Styled Wedding in Liverpool
When Brad and Louisa set out to plan their wedding, they knew it had to reflect their love for rock music, festivals, and all things alternative. Their rock festival styled wedding at Blackburne House in Liverpool was a celebration filled with high-energy moments, live music, and personal touches that made it truly unforgettable.
A Friendship That Led to a Perfect Wedding Match
I first met Brad and Louisa a year before their Liverpool wedding when Brad was the best man at Tom’s wedding. Tom and I go way back to our university days in 2008, where we both studied a Popular Music BA degree. So when Brad and Louisa reached out for their wedding, I already had an idea of the kind of vibe they’d be going for—rock, festivals, and a love for alternative weddings.
Their love story is one of shared passions, music festivals, and an unbreakable bond that was reflected in every detail of their wedding. Having attended numerous gigs and festivals together, their wedding was less about formalities and more about celebrating their journey with friends and family in a way that felt true to them.
A Unique Venue & DIY Festival Setup
Blackburne House, located in the heart of Liverpool, set the perfect backdrop for their day. Although outside my usual area, I was more than happy to travel north, especially as Eurovision was just weeks away from arriving in the city! One of the standout details of the day was the custom sound system setup — Brad, who works in live event sound, installed a full gig-level sound system, ensuring their wedding had the atmosphere of a true rock concert. Their tables were also named after their favorite festival bands, bringing even more personality to the reception space.
The venue itself had a rustic yet elegant charm, providing the perfect mix of intimacy and vibrancy. Fairy lights draped over the wooden beams created a warm atmosphere, while the couple’s chosen decor of band posters, vinyl records, and custom signage added the finishing touches to their rock wedding aesthetic.
A Ceremony Full of Energy & Laughter
Forget the traditional, quiet ceremony — Brad and Louisa’s was the complete opposite! Their emo wedding was relaxed, family-oriented, and bursting with personality. Instead of an officiant, they opted for a celebrant, meaning they weren’t tied to legal formalities and could make the ceremony truly their own. Their friends performed the readings, and rather than a solemn walk down the aisle, the couple danced their way through it, with guests cheering non-stop. It was a ceremony filled with joy, energy, and love — exactly what a rock festival styled wedding should be!
The vows were deeply personal, referencing inside jokes, festival memories, and their shared love for music. It was clear that every word spoken was a true reflection of their journey together, making the ceremony all the more touching for those who knew them best.
A Reception That Rocked (Literally!)
The reception was where the real party began. A live rock band took center stage, performing with Brad’s professionally set-up sound system and dance lighting. Their first dance was anything but traditional — they chose Enter Shikari’s ‘Stop the Clocks,’ an energetic emo classic that set the tone for the rest of the night.
An Unforgettable Cake Cutting Moment
One of the most unforgettable moments was the cake cutting — except, in true rockstar fashion, they didn’t use a knife. Instead, Brad wielded a broadsword he had forged at Oldfield Forge during his stag do, making for one of the most iconic cake-cutting moments I’ve ever photographed.
A Festival-Style Afterparty
After the live band finished their set, the party transitioned into a second room, where guests switched gears into full-on festival mode with neon glowsticks and cheesy disco tunes. The combination of rock energy and an alternative wedding party atmosphere kept everyone celebrating into the night.
A Rainy Night for Cinematic Portraits
As the night drew to a close, the unpredictable British weather delivered a final gift — rain. But rather than letting it dampen the mood, we took full advantage of it. The rain-soaked cobbled streets of Liverpool provided the perfect setting for some stunning backlit portraits, creating a moody and cinematic end to an already incredible day.
The misty reflections of streetlights on the wet pavement, combined with the couple’s undeniable chemistry, made for some of the most breathtaking wedding portraits I’ve ever captured. It was the perfect way to conclude a day that had been nothing short of legendary.
Final Thoughts
Brad and Louisa’s emo wedding was everything they had dreamed of — loud, fun, and completely true to who they are. It was also one of my personal favourite Liverpool weddings to photograph, filled with moments that perfectly blended rock wedding energy and romance. If you’re planning a wedding with an alternative edge, this is proof that you can throw tradition out the window and create something uniquely you!
From the electrifying live music to the heartfelt ceremony, every part of this rock festival styled wedding was a reflection of Brad and Louisa’s love story. If you’re planning a wedding that breaks the mould and truly represents you, I’d love to capture it.
